A Natural Raw Material with Many Possibilities.
Sweden Pelagic was established in 1991 in its new facilities in Ellös on Orust, marking the beginning of its development towards large-scale and efficient herring production. Since then, we have specialized in the processing and marinating/seasoning of pelagic fish—primarily herring and sprat. At our factory in Ellös, we sort, fillet, season, and pack the herring according to desired preferences. This process results in a unique product quality that endures year after year.
Careful Fishing for Sustainable Herring Production.
For us, it is essential that both our operations and our suppliers comply with the current regulations and laws established to ensure sustainable fishing. The sea is at our core, which is why we actively work to preserve its natural state. To reinforce this commitment, Sweden Pelagic is certified according to FSSC, MSC, and ISO14001.
For many years, we have collaborated closely with Chalmers University of Technology. Our joint efforts have focused on increasing the proportion of marine raw materials used for human consumption by finding new ways to utilize the entire fish. Our latest collaboration led to the development of a method that extracts the backbone from the filleting process. This method enables mechanical separation of the meat, resulting in finely minced herring.
