Sweden Pelagic was established in Ellös Orust in 1991 to develop an effective herring production. Since then, we’ve specialized in preparation, marinating, and seasoning pelagic fish - particularly herring. In our factory in Ellös, we sort, fillet, season, and pack the herring to specific preferences. The process creates a high-quality product.
Responsible fishing for a sustainable production
Our cooperation and suppliers must relate to the rules and regulations for sustainable fishing. The sea is our heart, and it is of interest to work proactively to preserve its natural state. We are certified according to FFSC, MSC, and ISO14001 to enhance our sustainability work.
We started a collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology a few years ago to find new ways to improve the sustainable fishing process. The work has focused on increasing the proportion of our marine resources that become food by finding new ways to utilize the entire fish. In our latest collaboration, we developed a method to separate the backbone from the filleting process. This method enables a mechanical separation of the meat, resulting in a finely divided herring mince.
